The Cayman Islands will be hosting the Cayman Invitational track and field meet on May 9, 2012, which was recently announced by Premier McKeeva Bush. The meet will be held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex and will mark a new sporting era in the Islands. The races included are the 100m, 110m and 400m hurdles and the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m running events. Over 80 athletes will attend and compete.
“Based on an idea developed by Cayman’s Cydonie Mothersill, the event is organised by the Ministry of Finance, Tourism and Development with a host of other sponsors, notably DART without whose contribution the event might not have become a reality,” said Premier McKeeva Bush.
The goal of Cydonie Mothersill is to have the Invitational become an annual event and create a trio of track and field meets with Puerto Rico and Jamaica. The sponsors this year for the Cayman Invitational include Dart Cayman, Cayman Islands Government, LIME, Cayman Airways, Cayman National Bank, DMS Broadcasting, Cayman Free Press and Water Authority.
